This fast paced book tells the comically raw and honest story of Mario, a vivacious fashionista, who transform into the fabulous "awkward hitch" right before the eyes of everyone she knows. Marlo moved from New York to London to make it in the music business, aided by the money made at her day job as a luxury retail manager. Her plans are bamoozled when she starts to lose her eyesight after only a month of living in her dream city! Through a series of roller coaster events taking her to Paris, Miami, London, and New York, she is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, the most common disabling neurogical disease affecting young adults today.

The increased use of digital tools for political activism has triggered heated debates about the effectiveness of digital campaigns for political change and feminist causes. While technology’s immediacy and transnational reach have broadened the potential impact of activism, it has, at the same time, complicated the goals, materiality, and consumption of feminist actions. In Awkward Politics, Carrie Smith-Prei and Maria Stehle suggest that awkwardness offers a means of engaging with twenty-first century feminist activism by accounting for the uncertainty of popfeminist moments and movements, its sometimes illegible meanings, affects, and aesthetics. By investigating transnational media ranging from popfeminist performance art, music, street activism, blogs, and hashtags to literature, film, academic theory, and protests, the authors demonstrate that viewing activist art through the lens of awkwardness can yield a nuanced critique. By developing awkwardness into a theoretical tool for intervention, a key concept of feminist politics, and a moving target, this innovative study dramatically alters the ways in which we approach activism, its forms, movements, and effects. It also suggests a broad range of applicability, from social movements to the academy. Breaking new ground through the intersections of technology, consumerism, and the political in popfeminist work, Awkward Politics highlights the urgency of feminist politics and activism.

It’s 2049, and NASA-sponsored physicist Edward Virr is on the cusp of man’s greatest breakthrough – the ability to fold space and travel faster than light. He personally tests NASA’s futuristic prototype fold ship with a hand-picked crew. Discovering there’s a lot more at stake than first contact, Ed soon realises that Earth’s very survival depends on his ability to solve a crime of galactic proportions. Join Edward Virr and his rag-tag crew as they undertake their first space adventure into the depths of the Milky Way. The Andromedan Fold (Book 2) The crew of your starship are being systematically slaughtered. What do you do? They find, not only the two misplaced ships but a secret to intergalactic travel, the biggest invasion fleet ever assembled and a ruling alien race so cruel, it could end all of humankind. Join, Ed and company, for their second crusade into the depths of uncharted space. Only this time the team are alone, two and a half million light years from home, they’re being hunted, and nothing it seems goes to plan. The Messier Fold (Book 3) To protect your family’s secrets, how many people would you murder? Planet Earth’s first maximum security jail break involving a cloaked spacecraft necessitates Edward Virr and the crew of the sentient starship Gabriel to give chase. Emboldened by the addition of Andrew’s father, a retired FBI investigator, they pursue their quarry over 250 million light years through a recently discovered galactic gateway – and find themselves immediately fighting for survival. Two races, at war for millennia over lust for power and greed, don’t take kindly to strangers appearing in their midst and push our heroes’ abilities so far, it culminates in an unspeakable tragedy. Meanwhile, their quarry have problems of their own…

From the No.1 bestselling author of Tainted Love For more than a decade two East End families have been locked in a bitter war. On one side are the Mitchells, a notorious underworld mob from East London's Canning Town. They have an iron in every fire and will resort to intimidation and violence to get what they want. When Stanley Smith's lovely young daughter, Jessica, announces that she is to marry Eddie, the son of mob boss Harry Mitchell, Stanley is horrified, but too afraid to stand in their way. On the other side are the O'Haras. The Mitchells' biggest rivals are a travelling family who live in nearby Stratford. They compete with the Mitchells for pub protection and the two families hate each other. Caught between these two families at war, are two innocent children, who will grow up to love the wrong people and spark the last terrible act in the long-running feud. 1988 was a happy year in many people's lives. Some called it The Rave Year, others The Second Summer of Love. For Eddie Mitchell and his family it is neither. 1988 is the year in which his whole dangerous, violent world explodes around him.

Then everything fell apart in the cruellest possible way. In this classic modern memoir, Diana Athill dissects the terrible consequences of loss and her struggle to rebuild a personality destroyed by sadness. Yet for all its unhappiness, Instead of a Letter remains a story of hope, written with the frank intelligence and lack of self-pity that have become the hallmarks of Athill's writing.

A riveting, immersive thriller from the author of Thunder Bay—"If you don't know Skelton, now's the time" (Ian Rankin). When a man in eighteenth-century Highland dress is found dead on the site of the Battle of Culloden, where Bonnie Prince Charlie led his forces to a rout seared into Scottish memory, Rebecca Connolly takes up the case for the Chronicle. A controversial film about the rebellion and battle is being shot nearby, and it has drawn the ire of the right-wing nationalist movement Spirit of the Gael. Is there some link between the murder—the weapon used to impale the man leaves no doubt it was murder—and Spirit of the Gael or the shadowy militant group New Dawn, thought to be associated with them? Meanwhile, in the working-class part of town, Rebecca's assignment to cover a protest against the placement of a convicted child molester into the community leads her to Mo Burke, the unlikely protest leader. Mo is a formidable woman, but she is also the matriarch of a known crime family and usually prefers to shun the spotlight. What has drawn her out? And what of her two grown sons, who share in the family business? The older one, Nolan, with Ben Affleck good looks, is clearly intrigued by Rebecca, as she is by him, despite her better instincts to steer clear of their dangerous, violent world. And then another body is found, this one wearing the Redcoat uniform of the victorious British army.

It's back to school with a bang for Alisha, Iman and Kareem – they all failed GCSE English and there are only six weeks until their resits. This is their last chance to continue Sixth Form, failure is not an option. It's down to Miss Murphy to see the trio through. But collectively, the students are unruly, she's already snowed under with her other classes and the school is literally falling apart. Gradually scenes set in and out of lessons reveal the difficulties facing students and staff, showing why they have 'failed' and why a stretched education system cannot cope with all the social problems outside. "The play touches on themes of mental health, disability (...) and gender, while presenting the difficulties teachers face when navigating the line between health and safety, child protection, and simply trying to get unruly 16-years-olds to gain some much-needed qualifications." (The Stage) Every Day I Make Greatness Happen won the Nick Darke Award 2017 and premiered at the Hampstead Theatre, London.

What Makes a Bitch or a Bully? I have to ask the question The bitch versus the bully, or are they one of the same thing?. So let's start to think, take a moment and assess what's it all about well here we go "the bitch".........the one big thing that gives a bitch away is the huddles in the corner of the room or office whispering and looking across at you making you feel intimidated, dont you just hate that! As an individual you become paranoid for a while however I was slightly deaf when I was younger I had learnt a little skill of lip reading so I could tell every word the huddles were saying. Not many people know I can do this and sometimes it is an advantage but actually on this occasion it was not as what I heard was a lot crueller than what I could have ever imagined. This is what inspires me to write this book and include some descriptions of bullies because I really feel that the bitch is a form of bullying in disguise. You will see that I sense that bullying does not have to be physical as you will, hopefully, become aware as it can be mental and/or verbal causing much more upset not just at the time but for some time going forward into the future.
